Let's challenge ourselves to find modern clothes that would fulfill the Marylike Standards:

http://www.salvemariaregina.info/Modesty.html

Quote1. "Marylike" means modesty without compromise -- "like Mary," Christ's pure and spotless Mother.

2. Marylike dresses have sleeves extending to the wrists; and skirts reaching the ankles.

3. Marylike dresses require full and loose coverage for the bodice, chest, shoulders, and back; the cut-out about the neck must not exceed "two fingers breadth under the pit of the throat" and a similar breadth around the back of the neck.

4. Marylike dresses also do not admit as modest coverage transparent fabrics -- laces, nets, organdy, nylons, etc. -- unless sufficient backing is added. Fabrics such as laces, nets, organdy may be moderately used as trimmings only.

5. Marylike dresses avoid the improper use of flesh-colored fabrics.

6. Marylike dresses conceal rather than reveal the figure of the wearer; they do not emphasize, unduly, parts of the body.

7. Marylike dresses provide full coverage, even after jacket, cape or stole are removed.

8. Marylike fashions are designed to conceal as much of the body as possible, rather than reveal. This would automatically eliminate such fashions as slacks, jeans, shorts, culottes, tight sweaters, sheer blouses, and sleeveless dresses; etc. The Marylike standards are a guide to instill a "sense of modesty." A girl or woman who follows these, and looks up to Mary as her ideal and model, will have no problem with modesty in dress. She will not be an occasion of sin or source of embarrassment or shame to others.

The standard set by the Cardinal Vicar of Pope Pius XI (quoted above) is meant to delineate between "decent" and indecent; it would be sinful to wear clothes which "cannot be called decent." We expect that members of the Fatima Crusade, who are resolved to make reparation for the sins of the world -- especially of immodest and impurity, will do far more than the minimum. They will truly strive to imitate the Blessed Virgin Mary in the virtue of modesty. Keep this guide with you when buying clothes. Make sure that you purchase or make only garments which meet the Marylike Standards.

"Be Marylike by being modest -- be modest by being Marylike."

I like this. I would wear it in spring to autumn (if it doesn't rain).

Skirts don't need to be ankle length now as far as I understand it, more like four inches below the knee when sitting or something? I know saintly Padre Pio demanded 8 inches below the knee for the women in his confession line, and that was more than normal requirements.
To Jesus through Mary.

Remember the Holy Souls!

"I wish it need not have happened in my time," said Frodo.
"So do I," said Gandalf, "and so do all who live to see such times. But that is not for them to decide. All we have to decide is what to do with the time that is given us."

This is the quote attributed to Card. Basilio Pompilj:

Quote"A dress cannot be called decent which is cut deeper than two fingers breadth under the pit of the throat; which does not cover the arms at least to the elbows; and scarcely reaches a bit beyond the knees. Furthermore, dresses of transparent materials are improper."

In the other modesty thread I asked about that quote, and its origins.

I go with some inches below the knee so that the knees are well covered when I sit down.

Arun

As I was told it by my spiritual director when I had one, the laws of modesty apply equally to both male and female and at a minimum consist of two finger widths below the neck and four below the knee. The upper arm should not be more than four finger widths above the elbow.

does this mean guys shouldnt wear shorts either? cuz im pretty sure my shorts come up above my knees when i sit down.  not that i think anyone wants to look at my knees, but i suppose there are some weirdos out there.  but it gets really hot where i live in the summer and shorts are comfy. this is kinda upsetting to me.

i had to goog singlet cuz i wasnt sure what it was. lol. are all male models intentionally made to look like homos? cuz most of them do. anyways, ya i wouldnt wear anything like that. i dont even take my shirt off when i swim, i wear a rash guard.

my shorts are pretty long so maybe they do cover my knees when i sit down. not like the 80s when guys wore really short shorts. that was almost like running around in your underwear. gross.
