Title: What is the "Social Gospel"?
Post by: Bernadette on September 09, 2019, 10:50:24 AM
My priest mentioned this last Sunday, saying that some people take issue with the Social Gospel, and that they need to take it up with Jesus, because His words are right there in the Gospel. What exactly is the Social Gospel?

All of Luke  chp 10 but particularly Ver 25 on.

But I don't think this is what the modernist mean.

The social Gospel is what is preached in the NO Church, it has replaced the preaching of doctrine.

The Social Gospel in the NO church is them preaching to save the planet, open borders and save the whales type of garbage.

The Social Gospel

"Our argument in this section is that there is nothing Christian in the modern Social Gospel. Those who set the fashion of the times are "love"-crazed zealots, who have by now accepted Marxism as an authentic expression of Christian charity, and socialism as true distributive justice. They have lost all concept of the supernatural order in general, and of the theological virtue of charity in particular.

They believe that they have discovered a truer image of Christ in this new interpretation of His words. The Conciliar Church is now an agency of the Judaeo-Masonic Revolution and the notion of holiness as the essential goal of the Christian life has given way to "social concern" and "caring." What remains of the contemplative life is seen an a vestige and an anacronism...." - Fr. Wathen

It sounds like the Gospel according to Judas.

The Social Gospel is the agenda of the political Left.

Any other questions?

One could also say that the Social Gospel often focuses on the corporal works of mercy more than the spiritual works of mercy.

There is Catholic Social teaching, on which Leo XIII wrote much, while the Social Gospel, a blending of Marxism with Christianity, is not really Catholic, in fact it can be suggestive of a limited belief in the afterlife, as taught.
