Upstairs Downstairs; All Creatures Great and Small; Sherlock Holmes (Jeremy Brett). Can anyone recommend anything else, preferably available on youtube
Edit: Forgot about Bless Me, Father which was also excellent, as were the books on which it was based.

I have to second this; its the British version of Jackie Gleason's the "Honeymooners" (for you older folks); Situation comedy at an Inn, in which the owner Basil Faulty (John Cleese), who is a bit headstrong, eccentric and thinks he knows more than his wife, gets himself into all kinds of problems as he tries to run his Hotel on the cheap. Hilarious!
I also heard that the series: "To The Manor Born" was very good; a noble woman having fallen on hard times, is forced to sell her manor and live in the gate house of the same; yet at the same time attempts to keep up pretenses and hide the fact.
The mini-series on Evelyn Waugh's book: "Brideshead Revisited"; about an old English noble Recusant Catholic family, and how their lives are affected by the adherence of departure from the practice of their faith.
"The World Must Conform to Our Lord and not He to it." Rev. Dennis Fahey CSSP

"My brothers, all of you, if you are condemned to see the triumph of evil, never applaud it. Never say to evil: you are good; to decadence: you are progess; to death: you are life. Sanctify yourselves in the times wherein God has placed you; bewail the evils and the disorders which God tolerates; oppose them with the energy of your works and your efforts, your life uncontaminated by error, free from being led astray, in such a way that having lived here below, united with the Spirit of the Lord, you will be admitted to be made but one with Him forever and ever: But he who is joined to the Lord is one in spirit." Cardinal Pie of Potiers

I've just discovered Dad's Army, with Arthur Lowe. Looks good.

German Woman: You speak German?

Mr. Fawlty: Oh, German! I'm sorry, I thought there was something wrong with you! Of course! German!

(Polly enters.)

Mr. Fawlty: Ah, Polly. Just explaining about the meat.

Polly: We weren't expecting you.

Mr. Fawlty: Oh, weren't you? They're Germans, don't mention the war.

The Railway Children

Just the sort of thing that you like, but with almost none of the nasty theosophy you find in other children's stories like The Little Princess. Just the opposite -- the station master has a house full of Catholic images. And I particularly like the modest dressing throughout the movie. All the girls are dressed as modestly as any muslim woman, but still looking distinctly Christian and European.

How lovely. Can't wait to watch this. I've seen another version (Masterpiece Theatre) and liked it very much.

I'll second both Brideshead Revisited (1981 version) and Larkrise to Candleford.  Also Cranford (Elizabeth Gaskell).
