I'm looking for what I think is called magical realism, but in children's books. Something like *The House With the Twisting Passage* by Marion St. John Webb, where a little girl finds that her imaginary friends have come to life. Or *The Cat in Grandfather's House* by Carl Henry Grabo, about a little girl who goes to stay in a spooky house where the furniture comes to life at night. A last example is Edith Nesbit's fantasy works, where children discover magical beings and/or travel back in time. Are there any other examples of this that you can recommend?

Is this for your daughters? How old are you? If you are >18, it's time for new reading material. Furthermore, I question the spiritual integrity of what you are describing.
Schaff Recht mir Gott und führe meine Sache gegen ein unheiliges Volk . . .   .
Lex Orandi, lex credendi, lex vivendi.
"Die Welt sucht nach Ehre, Ansehen, Reichtum, Vergnügen; die Heiligen aber suchen Demütigung, Verachtung, Armut, Abtötung und Buße." --Ausschnitt von der Geschichte des Lebens St. Bennos.

No, it's for me, Heinrich. I still enjoy reading children's literature, mostly Victorian. Obviously that's not all I read.
My Lord and my God.
