Catholic let alone trad catholic Therapists are near non existent I have found.

And yet some trads (not you, Vox) think that we ought to eschew higher educational pursuits, and so we find ourselves with no one to turn to when we suffer from debilitating mental illness.

I'm aware that my comment is slightly off-topic. Please ignore me.

Finding someone trustworthy not a spouse and not their priest to talk to is a tall order I have found in my life. I've come right out and asked both the Priests I know for a therapist ...never got back to me.

There aren't any, practically speaking. Trads need to go into the medical field, become physicians, psychiatrists, etc., and take care of our own.

Very true, though it would almost require them to go underground -- especially with all the Obamacare crap.  Here in California, for example, it is illegal for therapists to help people under the age of 18 combat same sex attraction.

I can't help you I am afraid.  I have never suffered from scruples.

It would be interesting to understand why some do and others don't.
Contentment is knowing that you're right. Happiness is knowing that someone else is wrong.

Chestertonian

Think there is overlap between ocd and scrupulosity but they are not the same thing.  Ocd generally involves irrational fears, and obsessive behaviors to counteract the fears.  So if you are afraid of germs, you might wash your hands repeatedly or brush your teeth twenty times a day.  Often people obsessively count the #of times they do things.  So you might double checked that you locked the door 5 times before you can sleep at night.

I'm sure it can affect the spiritual life... The fires of hell are a rational fear and the pursuit of holiness and spiritual perfection should not be trivialized, but if it is something that really impairs your ability to function then it could be an aspect of ocd

with genuine cases of OCD i would suggest trying very small amounts of medical marijuana, but make sure you are using a strain high in CBD and with relatively low THC levels comparatively. if you can find any pure indica strains these would be good, although you will need to use small amounts as high dosages may produce drowsiness. the CBDs promote mental "relaxation" and basically can help you to be laid-back and not stressed and fretting over small things. i have actually seen this work for the same symptoms you describe - although each individual may react differently, like any medication there is no one-size-fits-all. but if it is legal in your area i suggest at least having a try to see if it helps. try asking at the dispensary about oral tinctures, too. it would be the best way to manage small doses.

it would be best of course to see a specialist about the issue though, as it could be hard to say whether its just a case of religious scruples or whatever, or whether its actual OCD. its a little bit like bipolar - most people could take that survey test thing, you can find it online, most people could take that test and it would suggest you have moderate to severe bipolar when in fact you don't; it's all about correctly applying the information which is where a specialist comes in.

There are people who suffer from pure o OCD and it can be cured. Labels or not, atypical stress with marked or extreme behaviors is not healthy and it is ok to find a solution to be healthy. Seek help if you suspect any issues- cognitive behavioral therapy works! (No stupid drugs necessary!) OCDLA is a wonderful center and I recommend them based on family experience for someone I love endlessly. They were the only ones who identified and created an effective treatment plan, they don't drain you financially to keep you going forever. (You just need to do the work so it's up to you- not much different then the responsibility being on you to practice Catholicism) Prayers for you. Sorry that you have been hit with other responses that don't seem supportive.
Absolutely do not medicate with marijuana- why cover something that needs to be worked on or through and risk opening yourself up to more problems? (Didn't Bob Marley lose his mind from all the pot?) Drink some camomile tea or something. Go for a run. Have a Mass said for you....
You will see also as a Catholic the virtues that may need some fine tuning.

Angelcookie, upon what do you base your negative opinion of medical marijuana? It is actually widely accepted by people who are qualufied in the field of medocine that particular straibs are effective ib alleviating symptoms relating to ocd and in many cases even help to treat the causes. i have used medical marijuana to treat a similar issue in the past and found it hoghly effective.
