Hello everyone,

Been lurking for a while so thought it was time to introduce myself.

Religion

I converted to the faith as a 20 year old but unfortunately (due to my own stupidity) fell away and spent a decade wandering the world (literally and figuratively). I've been getting back into my religion over the last 12 months and have returned to the sacraments. It's good to be home!

Currently unmarried but very close with my own family. I attend Mass at an SSPX chapel. Also have great respect for the FSSP and ICKSP. Converted through an FSSP priest so have pretty much never had much to do with the Novus Ordo - TLM was always the default.

Interests

I go to the gym 3 times a week and enjoy cooking good food. Recently purchased a home with a decent sized plot of land a little out of the city so have been getting into growing my own food, keeping chickens, and trying to be more self sufficient.

Favourite books/plays include The Picture of Dorian Grey, Brideshead Revisited, and Macbeth.

Favourite countries visited are Italy, Vietnam, and Brazil.

Looking forward to chatting with some fellow Catholics.

Welcome.

We probably share a similar name. I too love cooking and go to the Gym 3-4 days a week.

Welcome to the forum James!
I'm glad you found your way back to the practice of the faith; and I pray for your perseverance and that you seek to deepen your faith ever more.
We have somewhat of the same hobbies; "Food" I enjoy other people cooking and me eating good food.
"Gym", never been a "gym-rat", but I do try to workout at home every day; although not much (heavy)weight lifting.
"Fav. Countries"; I love all the Brazilians that I have met; unfortunately, never been there. I now regret not having visited Italy when I had the opportunity, especially Rome.
"Chatting with Catholics"; yes, this is a good place to do this, and I am looking forward to your participation.

Sanctify yourselves in the times wherein God has placed you; bewail the evils and the disorders which God tolerates; oppose them with the energy of your works and your efforts, your life uncontaminated by error, free from being led astray, in such a way that having lived here below, united with the Spirit of the Lord, you will be admitted to be made but one with Him forever and ever: But he who is joined to the Lord is one in spirit." Yes, jackass that I am!

If you visited, there would be two jackasses in Rome at the same time!

Welcome, we also are homesteading (new at it) and keep chickens. I have too many tomatoes growing at the moment. I'm also growing broccoli, cucumbers, watermelon, and bell peppers.

Good questions! I am ethnically Anglo-Saxon but speak pretty decent Italian. I want to learn French.

Favorite lift is incline dumbbell chest press for upper and hack squat for lower. How about you?

X fit...pass. Slow and heavy all the way.

That's awesome. How long have you been homesteading and did it take you a while to get stuff set up? This is my first year and I feel like I spend a lot of time building things and less time growing things. Hoping for a bigger harvest when the infrastructure is all in place.

Yeah, we're actually off-grid, living on solar energy. My husband started during Covid (2020) and then I moved in with him a year after when we got married. Yeah, we didn't have time to grow things for a while but this year, I was able to grow a few crops. Our soil is not good (low nitrogen) and sandy so it'll need work over the years. We also have a short growing season so a greenhouse can help prolong it. Tools can speed up construction, for example, a nail gun vs a hammer. And buying building material early because delays happen.

Muy bien. Good old fashioned squat. Given my age and objectives, it's goblin(goblets)squatting in the home gym(converted bedroom on main floor).

Welcome! I don't do the gym anymore, tho I want to get back into lifting. Cooking is awesome.

I read Dorian Gray a year ago...what a captivating book. Could not put it down. Never read Brideshead Revisited, although Black Mischief was amazing.
