Title: Hikikomori
Post by: red solo cup on June 26, 2018, 06:46:29 AM
Hikikomori, "pulling inward" , is a silent epidemic affecting a million young Japanese adults with as many as another million at risk. These kids withdraw from all social contact, living in one room, which they rarely exit. They are fed by parents who in some cases haven't seen the child for years. Most of them boys, it's believed to be caused by the enormous pressures of society and schools that value success above all else, with many of them having been bullied.
Interestingly enough this problem is not seen in lower class families where the children are compelled to work. Because hikikomori is shameful very few talk about it and even fewer seek help.
