I would like others' thoughts on this. In its pure form, I love football. In its current form, I loathe professional football and the idolatry associated with it. Overall, it is a net negative for the common good. Yet, part of me is excited for a possible SB for the local team(one i grew up loving).

You can pull for the Bengals until tomorrow P.M. And then go back to hating the NFL, until the Bengals return next year to defend their championship.

If the Bengals manage to pull it off, it'll be like a fairy tale. Especially for Joe Burrow, the kid's a special talent.
"For there are no works of power, dearly-beloved, without the trials of temptations, there is no faith without proof, no contest without a foe, no victory without conflict. This life of ours is in the midst of snares, in the midst of battles; if we do not wish to be deceived, we must watch: if we want to overcome, we must fight." - St. Leo the Great

Don't count your chickens before they hatch. Aaron Donald and Cooper Kupp are the two players that will swing the game to the Rams. Two fantastic players.

The Bengals are the Cinderella team and the Rams a more solid over all team. I like both of them, I hope it's a good game.

Stop praying for sports outcomes my golly people.  The older I get the more I detest sports, and the only thing that will survive football into the Kingdom of Heaven is the marching bands, which is the best part of college football.

Hulking anglosaxons and negros colliding is the best part. Yet yes, the bands are absolutely essential to hs and college game.

This post reminds me that Roger Staubach who played quarterback for the Dallas Cowboys from 1969-1979 is a devout Catholic who I believe attends the TLM in the Dallas, Texas area. Staubach, who turned 80 this past February 5 is also a graduate of the US Naval Academy at Annapolis, a Heisman Trophy winner, Super Bowl MVP and was awarded the Presidential Medal of Freedom in 2018.

It was Roger Staubach who coined the phrase "Hail Mary" pass. In a memorable playoff game against the Minnesota Vikings in 1975, with seconds on the clock and the Cowboys trailing 14–10 Staubach launched a 50-yard pass to wide receiver Drew Pearson who caught the pass and strode into the end zone for a 17–14 victory. After the game Staubach said he threw the ball and said a "Hail Mary". Since then any last-second pass to the end zone in a desperate attempt to score a game-winning or tying touchdown is referred to as a "Hail Mary" pass.

There are many laudable Catholic men who made marks in the game. Most men who dismiss the game outright with jejune bromides and weaker cliches are dweebs who got picked last in gym class.

I love that phrase.
In conclusion, I can leave you with no better advice than that given after every sermon by Msgr Vincent Giammarino, who was pastor of St Michael's Church in Atlantic City in the 1950s:
