Anybody out there a member  Secular/Lay Third Order?  Something like the Carmelites or Franciscans. I'm thinking/discerning about becoming a Third Order Franciscan, not sure how traditional some of the groups might be.
For a Child is born to us, and a son is given to us, and the government is upon his shoulder: and his name shall be called, Wonderful, Counsellor, God the Mighty, the Father of the world to come, the Prince of Peace

I'll be watching this thread because I'd like to join a Lay Third Order too but I'm thinking most of them are moon-batty...
In conclusion, I can leave you with no better advice than that given after every sermon by Msgr Vincent Giammarino, who was pastor of St Michael's Church in Atlantic City in the 1950s:

"My dear good people: Do what you have to do, When you're supposed to do it, The best way you can do it,   For the Love of God. Amen"

That is what I'm afraid of- especially with the Franciscans.  I love St Francis and St Clare, but they tend to attract some oddballs (maybe myself included.)

I used to be T.O. SSPX, but am kind of in limbo on that. My postulancy is over, but I've never been able to get to a Society priest to make a full profession (i live a long way from any of their chapels). I still received the only newsletter sent out in the roughly year and a half I've been on the rolls.

To the topic at hand, if you happen to live in NY, the Franciscans of the Immaculate have a Third Order. I believe there is also one associated with the Morgan Capuchins (SSPX affiliated).
Jesus Christ, Son of God, have mercy on me, a sinner.

Take any post I write with a grain of salt. I've been wrong before, and can be again

We are not a third order, but we are a lay order.

and here is a page with our Rule of Life, it is an adaptation of the ancient Rule of the Knights Templar

The Dames of the order are different from Knights.  I would be happy to answer any questions you might have!

I'm a member of an unofficial lay Franciscan group.  Our rule is based on a traditional Third Order one rather the official (and modern) Secular Franciscans.  Technically I am still a Secular Franciscan but I was finding it too liberal so I was glad when we moved away from that area to have an excuse to stop attending.

Thank you, Peter. I live about 40 miles from them! This look perfect... :)

I took a brief look at the website during my lunch break. It looks very interesting; I will look into it further this weekend.

One format complaint though: The background is fine as pitch black, but the menu titles on the leftmost side of the page need to be white or a much brighter colour in order to stand out.  I had to highlight the menu just to see what the listings were.

That does look like an amazing religious order. Are there any organizations like this that aren't affiliated with the Indult?
What is left there to do? My dear brethren, (...) I think I can say that we need to make a crusade based on the Holy Sacrifice of the Mass, the Blood of Our Lord Jesus Christ, leaning on the invincible rock and that inexhaustible source of grace which is the Holy Sacrifice of the Mass."

His Grace Archbishop Marcel Lefebvre, sermon  on his jubilee in 1979.

"O Blessed Virgin Mary, Mother of God, and our own most gentle Queen and Mother, look down in mercy upon England, thy Dowry, and upon us all who greatly hope and trust in thee. Through thee it was that Jesus our Saviour and our Hope was given unto the world; and he hath given thee to us that we might hope still more. Plead for us thy children, whom thou didst receive and accept at the foot of the Cross, O sorrowful Mother. Intercede for our separated English brethren, that they may be united with us in the one true Fold. Pray for us all, dear Mother, that by faith fruitful in good works, we may all deserve to see and praise God together with thee in our heavenly home. Amen."- Prayer for the Conversion of England.

Is there a new link for The Slaves of the Immaculate Heart of Mary

Miriam_M

https://www.society-sacred-heart.org/

The Institute has said that technically it's not a "Third Order," but it actually functions just like one, i.m.o.  Daily requirements/expectations, including the Office, Mass or spiritual communion, other aspects of a Rule, yearly retreat, and connection with a men's apostolic order.

Probably the yearly retreat was not held this year, for obvious reasons.

Miriam_M

Correction.  Apparently they did have a Retreat this year.  Don't have time to investigate whether it was online.  (Probably)  Conferences listed here:
