Are credit unions safer ? I use a large credit union as well.

I am getting a bit sick of fear porn. I thought Jesus told us 'do not be afraid'?
Father time has an undefeated record.

But when he's dumb and no more here,
Nineteen hundred years or near,
Clau-Clau-Claudius shall speak clear.

Why are there 2 awkward customer accounts?

- awkward customer (with a space)  and
- awkwardcustomer

Which awkward customer are you?

Two accounts, eh?  I had no idea.

There's only one awkward customer and that's me.

Good of you to keep tabs on these things.

I think he's referring to news feeds which focus largely on negative predictions. For example, this is so common on stupid Yahoo news and on headline feeds that are dumped into "smart" stupid phones every morning.  When one opens the story to read the supposed cataclysm lying behind the headline, it becomes immediately obvious how manufactured the alarm is. (There's no actual story, and in fact no event, even.)

I checked the members list.  I first registered with the forum in 2014 and my user name did not have a space.  Then I left the forum for a while - a year, maybe two.

In 2022 I decided to start posting again and because I had a new email address, internet provider and couldn't remember my password, I decided to reapply from scratch but with the same username.  Or so I thought, not realising that a space now existed where one had not before.

So yes, there are two accounts with very similar names, but I only know the password to one of them.

Funny. I bought groceries & home supplies for the next two weeks... $115, family of 7 with 3 teenagers.

Apart from the secular and religious fear-mongering, life is as good as it's been. new TLM weekly in my home diocese, 2 pre-55 holy weeks within driving distance, SSPX growing, local parish's college students becoming more trad & pastor invited a priest to say the TLM...

There's so much good happening worldwide beneath the Francis/Macron/Trump/Biden fodder. I still recall a shrewd priest friend remarking that following the Francis news in particular, "can be an occasion of sin" and that perhaps it's best to redouble one's efforts particular to their state in life.
Feels like Groundhog Day again.

I sell stuff to US banks and constantly need to read their balance sheets.  Let me assure you, there are not 1600 banks that matter.  By the time you get to 50 or 60 from the top they are tiny little things with small balance sheets and brand names most people have never heard of.

The top 15 banks in the USA are the only ones where their collapse would cause a systemic risk.  One of the top 4 collapsing would bring down the US economy since they are market makers..

Silicon Valley Bank was the 16th largest US bank by assets.

I have stopped reading the 'fear' headlines too but like to keep up to date with news superficially and it has helped me tremendously not to get bogged down with it all.  However your shopping bill is remarkably cheaper and life is not as rosy as it was but by no means are we pinned to our collar yet.  So far in Ireland, groceries have increased by 30-40% in price, electric has tripled and still climbing, diesel for our car has doubled but settled back to about 60% more of what we were paying 18 months ago, anything to buy like a kettle or new laptop has jumped in price and a little harder to get but not scarce. They are only some samples of how tight its getting and we haven't hit recession yet.

Don't, can't believe that. Mrs. H and I spend 500 USD every 3-4 weeks at Costco in Florence, KY. Yesterday's trip was 700+ with gas, household items, and Easter meats and cheeses. We buy only meat and organic along with three dogs and cats, so that may be a high bill accelerator. We eat out once every six weeks or so. 115 dollars for 7? Ramen noodles and spaghetti noodles?

Nope! We do bake our own bread though, and as one of only two meat-eaters in the house, by and large our meals are vegetarian—lentil stews, Thai-inspired noodles, curries, homemade pizza—and we tend to plan to have the same dinner 2-3 nights in a row, saving on having to prep meals every day/evening.

That didn't include our kroger groceries, but you get the idea.
