The Importance of the Crucifix

An easy spiritual exercise which has much profit is to look upon a crucifix at least once per day.  You can say, "thank you Jesus, I love you."

An important scripture with regards to this practice:

And as Moses lifted up the serpent in the desert, so must the Son of man be lifted up: [15] That whosoever believeth in him, may not perish; but may have life everlasting.

And what is the Lord referencing?

Wherefore the Lord sent among the people fiery serpents, which bit them and killed many of them. [7] Upon which they came to Moses, and said: We have sinned, because we have spoken against the Lord and thee: pray that he may take away these serpents from us. And Moses prayed for the people. [8] And the Lord said to him: Make a brazen serpent, and set it up for a sign: whosoever being struck shall look on it, shall live.

Especially when you have been bitten by the serpent of sin, look upon the crucifix and remember that He loved you so much He shed every drop of His Most Precious Blood for love of you.  Go to confession confident in the love and mercy of God.
