due to personal boycott of anything Amazon, which ebook would you buy?

Since Wayfair gate and AMazon and a few other major retailers may be allegedly involved in child trafficking, I cannot stomach the idea of purchasing on Amazon until it is fully investigated (I know, yeah right!!). So what ebook could you recommend for my teens going forward on a new journey of homeschooling?

I am looking for the device itself and then to download age appropriate general books. This won't be for school learning but more for leisure reading but to develop their intellect.

If you want just an ereader, then a Kobo might work. You could either get books from their bookstore, or from Google Play books. If you want a tablet, I can only think of Samsung. Same, you would get books from Google Play books. For book suggestions, I recommend Fr. Finn's books for kids, as well as Edith Nesbit. These are available for free on Archive.org.

Download something called Hexchat and go to Undernet, channel bookz. This is a bit technical as you have to use IRC jargon to search for and download books.

You can find most book there in epub format (occasionally mobi too). Use the Calibre application to convert
epub->mobi.

You can then plug in a kindle to a pc (or mac), using a USB cable, and just drag the book into the Documents folder. The book will then magically appear on the kindle menu when you hit the home button (sometimes you may have to scroll down to find it).

You can also email books to <username>@kindle.com (replace <username> with yours) if you have an amazon account but this takes a bit of setting up. You should be able to find out how fairly easily on the Internet though.

See this sounds so complicated to a non tech like me but it also sounds like a bit of skulduggery so I'll google every step

Here is a simple example.

The link below links to Grimms Fairy Tales on the Gutenberg site in mobi format (edit: that is the format that the Kindle uses)

Right-click on the above link and select Save link As to save the file pg52521-images.mobi to your PC/Mac in a suitable place.

If you have a kindle you can plug it in using a cable (usually white). The kindle will appear as a hard-drive on you system. Follow the instuctions about Documents above (it's actually Documents, not MyDocument).
