Has anyone read this book?

I started reading it, and while a lot of the information is interesting, I keep wondering how... factual it is.  The author's sources basically boil down to "I looked it up, researched things, and wrote a book."  Which, sure, is fine and dandy, but ...  how does it hold up to actual research/investigation?
