500 and Euchre are both excellent games.  I've always wanted to learn Sheepshead.   It's big up in Wisconsin, is it not?  The problem, of course, is finding others with whom to play.  (Though I think Yahoo games actually has a Sheepshead site.  They have Euchre, Cribbage, Pinochle, Gin, Bridge, and Canasta, also.  It's fantastic.)

Correct.  Wisconsinites love their sheepshead.  I was never a big card player, so I never learned how to play it.  People are always astounded that I don't know how to play cards.  Some people said that I should be a pro at them because I'm an electrical engineer and a lot of qualities/attributes overlap for liking card games and circuits?  Or maybe just the whole idea of digital logic and cards.

And cribbage.  I forgot to mention cribbage.

Since you like speed, have you ever heard of spit? It's a lot like speed, except more intense because you're playing off of more cards at one time. It gets going so fast that it makes it incredibly easy to cheat. 

No but that sounds like fun.

I recently learned how to play Euchre. I also hear that it's a big deal in the Midwest. The guy who taught me to play is from Michigan and his family is apparently really intense about it.

Hearts is a bit similar to Euchre. I enjoy playing Hearts.

I also enjoy a game called Nuts. It's like a two-person, two-deck version of Solitaire, sort of.

What do you mean by "strategic, intentional burning"?  Sounds like fun. 

Well, there were two ways. The first goes like this: let's say I only have three cards. A queen is played, and I know my last card is a queen. To get to it, though, I have to burn the top card. Thus, I intentionally slap to burn it, play my first card, play the queen and slap, since it's a sandwich. The second way is more risky. If I play a king, I'll slap on the third card. If it works out, there is no penalty. If someone place a face card or an ace, I have to burn.

Is that all it takes to be a midwesterner these days? No love for the rugged farm life is necessary? Anyway, Wisconsin is out. You know how I feel about cheese.

I mean, rugged farm life is always helpful, but, you're a trad so it's not too much of a difference, amirite?

Ah, okay.  This makes sense.  You clearly played a much higher-level game than we did.

YESSSS.  Mao is the best.  That may very well be my absolute favorite game, especially when you have a few people who know how to play and one poor sucker who's trying to figure it out.
