On the anniversary of the bombing of Nagasaki, Pope Francis spoke of the need of ridding the world of nuclear weapons. Do you believe the world should work to reduce nuclear stockpiles?

At the Angelus on Sunday, Pope Francis urged prayer and commitment to free the world from nuclear weapons.

On the seventy-fifth anniversary of the nuclear attacks on Japan, Pope Francis once again called "for prayer and commitment to a world completely free of nuclear weapons."

The Holy Father has repeatedly called for nuclear disarmament and the elimination of stockpiles of nuclear weapons, notably during his visit in 2019 to Hiroshima and Nagasaki, which he recalled on Sunday "with deep emotion and gratitude."

Hiroshima: the use and possession of nuclear weapons is immoral

Last year at Hiroshima, paying homage to victims and acknowledging the strength and dignity of survivors, Pope Francis said, "We continue even today to hear the cries of those who are no longer. They came from different places, had different names, and some spoke different languages. Yet all were united in the same fate, in a terrifying hour that left its mark forever not only on the history of this country, but on the face of humanity."
At the time, the Pope repeated, "the use of atomic energy for purposes of war is today, more than ever, a crime not only against the dignity of human beings but against any possible future for our common home. The use of atomic energy for purposes of war is immoral, just as the possession of atomic weapons is immoral."

"We will be judged on this," he added.

Pope in Nagasaki: We cannot repeat the mistakes of the past

Nagasaki: A world without nuclear weapon is possible

On that same day, Pope Francis visited Nagasaki, where he reiterated his call for a world without nuclear weapons. "Convinced as I am that a world without nuclear weapons is possible and necessary," he said, "I ask political leaders not to forget that these weapons cannot protect us from current threats to national and international security. We need to ponder the catastrophic impact of their deployment, especially from a humanitarian and environmental standpoint, and reject heightening a climate of fear, mistrust, and hostility fomented by nuclear doctrines."

"[2] He that walketh without blemish, and worketh justice:[3] He that speaketh truth in his heart, who hath not used deceit in his tongue: Nor hath done evil to his neighbour: nor taken up a reproach against his neighbours.(Psalm 14)

"[2] For in many things we all offend. If any man offend not in word, the same is a perfect man."(James 3)

"[14] And do ye all things without murmurings and hesitations; [15] That you may be blameless, and sincere children of God, without reproof, in the midst of a crooked and perverse generation; among whom you shine as lights in the world." (Phil 2:14-15)

Even if we got rid of all nuclear weapons, those capable of building them would do so in the event of an actual war, particularly the side that finds itself in a losing position at the end of an invasion. It's a fool's errand.

QuoteI ask political leaders not to forget that these weapons cannot protect us from current threats to national and international security.

What's he talking about? Insofar as that's even true, that there are no such imminent threats, that's in part thanks to nuclear weapons. But it's not true. The man just daren't mention the Chinese Communist Party to whom he already sold out Chinese Catholics.

Our Lord had this to say on W.M.D.: Matt. 10:
Quote[28] And fear ye not them that kill the body, and are not able to kill the soul: but rather fear him that can destroy both soul and body in hell.
Our Lady of Fatima didn't show the kids bombs going off but rather the terrifying vision of Hell, were souls were were falling into Hell like snowflakes in a blizzard:
Quote    [Mary] opened Her hands once more, as She had done the two previous months. The rays [of light] appeared to penetrate the earth, and we saw, as it were, a vast sea of fire. Plunged in this fire, we saw the demons and the souls [of the damned].
The latter were like transparent burning embers, all blackened or burnished bronze, having human forms. They were floating about in that conflagration, now raised into the air by the flames which issued from within themselves, together with great clouds of smoke. Now they fell back on every side like sparks in huge fires, without weight or equilibrium, amid shrieks and groans of pain and despair, which horrified us and made us tremble with fright (it must have been this sight which caused me to cry out, as people say they heard me).
The demons were distinguished [from the souls of the damned] by their terrifying and repellent likeness to frightful and unknown animals, black and transparent like burning coals. That vision only lasted for a moment, thanks to our good Heavenly Mother, Who at the first apparition had promised to take us to Heaven. Without that, I think that we would have died of terror and fear.
It is sin which leads people to Hell; and it is ignorance of our Catholic faith which leads people into sin; so that is why Our Lord did not command the Apostles to preach on eliminating war, but on preaching the faith:[Matthew 28:19]
Quote"Going therefore, teach ye all nations; baptizing them in the name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Ghost."

"The World Must Conform to Our Lord and not He to it." Rev. Dennis Fahey CSSP

"My brothers, all of you, if you are condemned to see the triumph of evil, never applaud it. Never say to evil: you are good; to decadence: you are progess; to death: you are life. Sanctify yourselves in the times wherein God has placed you; bewail the evils and the disorders which God tolerates; oppose them with the energy of your works and your efforts, your life uncontaminated by error, free from being led astray, in such a way that having lived here below, united with the Spirit of the Lord, you will be admitted to be made but one with Him forever and ever: But he who is joined to the Lord is one in spirit." No doubt Baptism and Evangelism is the Church's core Mission, as taught in the Great Commission. But the Bible also tells us to strive to live at peace with all men. (Heb 12:14) That is therefore part of the Gospel. At Fatima, Our Lady spoke of the annihilation of nations. The Three Children were moved by that, and tried to minimize that part of the chastisement. The Gospel is the only long term solution to war, of course. But Church teaching is that, even when there is a right to wage a just war, there must be right conduct within war until the end. Proscription of nuclear weapons comes under that. At the height of the Cold War, Pope John XXIII intervened to bring a temporary peace between the US and Russia during the Cuban Missile Crisis: https://cruxnow.com/analysis/2017/08/amid-nuclear-fears-remember-pope-helped-avert-armageddon/ Our Lord also said, "Blessed are the peacemakers: for they shall be called children of God." Our Blessed Mother did not call for arms reduction treaties; demobilization; etc. etc. She asked for prayers and penance for the conversion of sinners; the predicted "annihilation of nations" was to result if Our Blessed Mother's request for the Consecration of Russia was not done. The children were especially moved to prayer and penance after the vision of Hell.
We should keep peace with all men as far as possible; but peace among men and nations is not possible without Our Divine Savior and our Holy Mother the Church; any purely natural solution will fail.
Unfortunately Pope Francis is not preaching the true faith, but a vaguely humanitarian religion.
John XXIII may have intervened to avert a nuclear war, but he unleashed what Msgr. Lefebvre called "The Third World War" in the Church at Vatican II; for the loss of faith and perdition of millions of souls.
Pope Francis for all his call to eliminate nuclear weapons, is destroying the Catholic faith by his teachings and example; his betrayal of the Catholic Church in China alone will condemn his whole pontificate. His silence and failure to condemn the persecution of Chinese Catholics is infamous.

Did the Pope at the time (Pius XII) of the atomic bombings speak out against them? I don't see how atomic bombing of cities is any different morally than the strategic bombings that occurred in WWII.

If attending Mass, the ordinary form as celebrated everyday around the world be sinful, then the Church no longer exists. Period.
Rather, if the NOM were the lex credendi of the Church, then the Church would no longer exist. However, the true mass and the true sacraments still exist and will hold the candle of faith until Our Lord steps in to restore His Bride to her glory.
We could compare ourselves to the Catholics in England at the time of the Reformation. Was it sinful for them to attend Cranmer's service?
We have to remind ourselves that all the machinery of the "Church" continued in place. They had priests, bishops, churches, cathedrals. But all of them were using the new "Book of Common Prayer" instead of the Catholic Mass. Ordinary lay people could see with their own eyes an enormous entity that called itself the "Church," but did the true Church still exist in that situation? Meanwhile, in small hiding places in certain homes were a handful of true priests offering the true Mass at the risk of imprisonment, torture and death.

Listen to Michael, Xavier.  The titular Vicar of Christ should be calling for a world free of mortal sin.

The level of mortal sin, including the flagrant, frequent, accelerating violations of all of The Four Sins in the last few years especially, is a global spiritual crisis.  Pope Francis, major globalist, should be applying his role as Vicar of Christ King of the Universe to this moral crisis which has invited in an army of Satan's minions into all of society, but especially among the most powerful nations -- the U.S., the industrialized West in general, and China.

The potential for nuclear war is not what has made the U.S. a cesspool of political corruption, inviting Communism into the country in 2020, and not what most imperils humanity, oh Mr. Humanism, Pope Francis.

Every Pope since the year 1200 has claimed the title of Vicar of Christ. Francis does not call himself the Vicar of Christ.

Why?

It can be argued that nuclear weapons have kept major powers from fighting full scale direct wars. It kept the Cold War cold, but never warm, although not forgetting the victim of proxy wars. Not sure that far-left activist understands the idea of sin.

Anyhow, anything Francis is for is probably harmful to Catholics.
