Introduction

I just wanted to introduce myself, I'm a convert and currently set to take confirmation this easter. My path here has taken me around 3 years. I started by studying religion in general, and overtime came to see Catholicism as the righteous way. It was not, and is still not easy. I actually think this process has been one of the more difficult things I've done. But I suppose that's expected when you have to face years of your own hedonistic behavior, and try to change it for the better.

I'm still a newbie, But RCIA has been a big help. As a history buff, I've enjoyed a lot of it too.

What I didn't expect was the sort of in-fighting that's going on, no offense of course. For some reason, prior to, I just thought all Catholics were trads. But after listening to different perspectives and some debates, I don't see the upside in trying get away from the more traditional concepts of the church. I figure that would be a strong point for conversion actually, especially for young men. It certainly helped me along

Thirdly, yes, traditional Catholicism aka "the real deal" is and always has been attractive to not only non-Catholics who converted to the faith by the hundreds of thousands every year, but also to Catholics themselves; up until somebody got the not so bright idea of modifying the faith in order to make it "more attractive to the modern man"; thereby causing a massive defection among regular Catholics and stopped the incoming of converts almost to a trickle.

Until a few weeks ago, I would have though that Fursey was an unusual name; but then I noticed it, St Fursey,
as the headline at the top of the SSPX UK calendar for January. That seems to be this years theme - Saints with
ancient names (mostly Celtic or Saxon I guess).

Welcome! I didn't know about "traditional Catholicism" until after I started educating myself on Catholicism (watching YouTube videos, joining forums like this one). I hope you can find a community on this forum.

Hello. You made the right choice. Catholicism is the most healthy community of Christians. The Protestants hardly believe in sin and are very prone to reckless interpretation of scripture. The Orthodox seem to be reactionary toward Rome which I think clouds their doctrine. Of course Catholicism is dealing with "issues" currently but I suspect that there will be a popular arch-traditionalist revolt in the Vatican within the next 15 years.

There's a saying with a lot of truth to it: "When it's easy to be a Catholic, then it's hard; but when it's hard to be Catholic, that's when it's easy."  I don't, and I doubt any other practicing Catholic, sticks around because being Catholic is easy, but because it is the Way Christ established for mankind's salvation and passed on to His Apostles.

It doesn't merely cloud it.  It's made them heretics.  Obstinate denial of things that are obviously true, like the Marian dogmas.

And to think they used to accept the Immaculate Conception at one point, lol.
