Bible translations

I know The Douay Rheims is considered the most literal and accurate catholic version of the Bible. What would be the second best then? RSV2CE? Is there a DR edition with Confraternity NT?
I recently discovered a new translation of the Bible called St. Joseph New Catholic Bible (NCB) and it's quite good in my opinion. Do you guys have an experience with this translation?

I have the Knox translation which I occasionally read, and I like it so far.

Any edition printed before 1965, which has been given imprimatur by a Catholic bishop should be fine. And faithful reprints of it.

I don't agree. Starting in 1957, the English translations of the readings in all the Missals were replaced by a new version published by the Confraternity of Christian Doctrine. The new translations are uniformly bad. In every instance where they have changed the wording, the new version is always less accurate, sometimes in significant ways.

One of the things they did at the same time -- along with butchering the liturgical calendar -- was to switch over to English-only missals. So you received a new translation, which includes many important changes to the word of God, and yet you have no way to cross-check against the Latin.

It's important to note that this new translations was:

1. Authorized by not just 1 bishop but by all the bishops.
2. Put into mandatory use several years before 1965.

A quick way to check whether you have the new CCD translation is to flip to the epistle for the Marriage Mass. In the new CCD translation it says "the wife is to 'respect' the husband," while in the Greek and the Latin and the traditional English translation it says, "the wife is to 'fear' the husband." This is a clear example where they altered the Word of God because it no longer matched with their modern sensibilities.

I very much like a Bible I own published by Benziger Brothers.  I think it may have been printed in the '50s, or maybe even the early '60s.  What I do know is that the NT is Confraternity version which was first published in 1941, I believe.  The OT is all Challoner DR.  This Bible was published while the Confraternity was trying to translate the entire Bible. 

At this time, the Confraternity was actually doing a good job in my opinion.  It was still written with the same elegance as the DR, and it did help me tremendously to understand some very sticky passages, at least they were sticky for me at the time.

I don't know in English. But in Spanish I like Nacar-Colunga until 1957. After it they start to include modernist comments.

I have the edition from Baronius Press. From what I've read of it, it's good.
