I've had conversations like that.  Not quite to that degree, but often 3 or 4 languages flying around at once, and a bit of using language as code.  (My in laws speak no Russian -- we use this to our advantage, esp in whispers.)

We had this in the Greek church.  5 or 6 languages in the lunchroom.  A lot of them are second generation, so they want to use the opportunity to practice, or encourage their kids to speak with some of the 1st gen.   But if there's someone who can only speak English at the table, yes of course that would be pitiless....they switch to English.
