The Arks of the Covenants

I received an unmerited illumination today which was quite comforting personally, though it may well be something that most of you have here have already thought about or been taught. However I was raised protestant and then suffered through weaksauce liberal catechesis, so when I get this stuff it really sends me soaring.

So there are two covenants, the old and the new, and two arks, one being a gilded box and the other being the Blessed Virgin Mary. What I just realized today was that each ark reflects the nature of the covenant with which it is associated. "[F]or the letter kills, but the spirit gives life." "Now if the ministration of death, engraven with letters upon stones, was glorious; so that the children of Israel could not steadfastly behold the face of Moses, for the glory of his countenance, which is made void: How shall not the ministration of the spirit be rather in glory? For if the ministration of condemnation be glory, much more the ministration of justice aboundeth in glory."

The Ark of the Old Covenant, which was a law unto condemnation, was an inanimate object. To touch this object caused death, as in the case of Uzzah. The Ark of the New Covenant, the Blessed Virgin, is a living person. Her body brought forth life. So in these two respects the old ark is like the Old Covenant, something fixed and death-dealing, whereas the new ark is like the New Covenant, something personal and live-giving.

I've heard of Mary as an ark, however I never made the life/death connection.

I always use the ark of the covenant to discuss Mary with anticatholic protestants. It is a flawless analogy.
