In pop culture, the depiction of angels has shifted towards more of a other worldly image, known under the term of "Biblically Accurate". For example, Ophanim are depicted as intimidating rings of eyes. With others being depicted quite ghastly. Traditionally these beings in Catholic iconography take on a more human form.

The question is, do angels in actuality take on the form of these purported "biblically accurate" angels? Or is this the imagination of secular artists without much grounding?

Honestly no idea, and frankly even those have seen angels have no idea because the angels can take on any physical form they want, of course within the will of God.  The saints have remarked that the sight of a demon is beyond horrific, one of the worst things that can befall the eyes, I would imagine the opposite to behold an angel, beyond joyful and beautiful, so much so that you could hardly stay alive.

I think one thing to remember is we are in such darkness in this fallen world, we really are, even our understanding of life and beauty is so tainted that we have maybe a 10% understanding of the fullness of life and limits of beauty.  We are truly in the darkness.  So we have such a limited understanding of all the things beyond this dimension.

Michael Wilson

There are some apparitions of the Angels in the O.T. That describe the Angels as they are depicted in art; in others they appear in the guise of men, such as the three angels that appeared to Abraham, and Lot; and the Raphael in the book of Tobias. Angels have no material body, are entirely spiritual creatures. Their beings filled with sanctifying grace, beautify them to such a degree that if one would appear to us in the fullness of their beauty, we would be inclined to worship him as God; as happened to St. John in the Apocalypse.

"My brothers, all of you, if you are condemned to see the triumph of evil, never applaud it. Never say to evil: you are good; to decadence: you are progess; to death: you are life. Sanctify yourselves in the times wherein God has placed you; bewail the evils and the disorders which God tolerates; oppose them with the energy of your works and your efforts, your life uncontaminated by error, free from being led astray, in such a way that having lived here below, united with the Spirit of the Lord, you will be admitted to be made but one with Him forever and ever: But he who is joined to the Lord is one in spirit." Cardinal Pie of Potiers
