With the title of the thread being "Were Anglo-Saxons Worse Than The Vikings?" I'd have to say, yes they were.

What about the Irish Gaels who invaded Scotland and made war on the original inhabitants the Picts?  Were they worse than the Vikings?

The invading Gaels from Ireland established their kingdom of Dalraida in Scotland in what is now Argyle and the Isles. The Gaels played their part in the annihilation of Scotland's original inhabitants the Picts.  The language of the Picts is now extinct, thanks in part to the Gaels.

But the Anglo-Saxons just have to be the villians, no matter what.  Even compared to the Vikings!!!  Meanwhile the Gaels get a free pass, despite the territorial and cultural war they waged on the Picts - and won.

The history of the Picts lives on within some Highland Clans today.  Sadly not much in Scotland anymore though since the Highland Clearances.

Pictish culture has disappeared and the Pictish language is extinct.  The Gaels played their part in that, and their language and culture survives.

It's irrelevant if a percentage of modern Highlanders carry a percentage of Pictish DNA.  As a people with a distinct culture, the Picts no longer exist. 

The Picts, and not the Gaels, are the real 'victims' here.  Sorry about that.

Pictish culture disappeared when Highland culture disappeared after the Battle of Culloden in 1776.
