So my point is to ask if anyone else has movies they secretly love but are afraid to say?

Super Troopers

Dodgeball

Steel Magnolias. (don't tell or people will think I'm transgendered..)
If thou wilt receive profit, read with humility, simplicity, and faith, and seek not at any time the fame of being learned.

Thomas à Kempis

The Dumb Ostrich

I think most people today especially us Catholics struggle with movies because their pretty much turning into porn. I wouldn't worry yourself with the sophistication with movies as much as what's in the movie in terms of virtue. Is this movie doing more damage for me than good.

Have you tried watching these movies
A man for all seasons. Shawshank Redemption. King Kong (Newer version), Lord of the Rings. These movies in degree are sophisticated.

You shouldn't be embarrassed that you love Ghostbusters. Bill Burry and Co. are awesome.

I was waiting for someone to mention "The Princess Bride".

Maybe if I was a few years older I would appreciate it more.

Not sure what you mean. I'm pretty sure I'm younger than you too.  ???
"All the good works in the world are not equal to the Holy Sacrifice of the Mass because they are the works of men; but the Mass is the work of God. Martyrdom is nothing in comparison for it is but the sacrifice of man to God; but the Mass is the sacrifice of God for man." - St. John Vianney

Princess Bride is a staple of those kids a few years older then me. They were all obsessed with it.

Not sure if I am older then you. How about you say how old you are and I will let you know where I fall. ;)

It's not that I am soooo embarrassed. It's just when certain people go to school about art, and hang out with other artsy fartsies, they get a certain...attitude. In my experience, the stereotype is real. "Fine" art vs "commercial" art- yawn. French movies, always B/W, of people sobbing against the wall because the fruit in a bowl was arranged the wrong way,   and then having a 5 hour conversation on what the orange represented. You know, crap like that.

So me chiming in that "The Burbs" is my favorite movie is just too pedestrian for words. (Poor Mr T suffers so much) ;D

Oh, no.  Do you have the same views about literature as well?
IF I speak with the tongues of men, and of angels, and have not charity, I am become as sounding brass, or a tinkling cymbal.

Like a (yawn) semester long discussion on the color of the whale in Moby Dick?  (Repressed memories from college coming through)
For a Child is born to us, and a son is given to us, and the government is upon his shoulder: and his name shall be called, Wonderful, Counsellor, God the Mighty, the Father of the world to come, the Prince of Peace

Bernadette

Heh, I transferred to a different school after my first sophomore semester, and ended up studying Moby Dick at both schools!  :o Needless to say, I didn't read it nearly as closely the second time.
My Lord and my God.

How many different ways can you debate the color white?

My siblings and I grew up watching it. And I'm 26...

Oh, it's ok. There is nothing more fun then teasing him for his snobby ways.  ;D I am not a huge literature buff, since I have had kids my reading has gone the way of my movie watching- strictly entertainment. So our tastes are different, but it's not a big deal.

You are playing with fire bringing that up. Haven't you noticed all the different shades of white at the paint store?
