Requiem, Allhallowtide, Halloween, etc.
« on: October 31, 2017, 06:13:54 PM »
This is one of my favorite times of the year. Happy Allhallowtide to everyone!

From the Requiem Mass by Cristóbal de Morales used for the funeral of Holy Roman Emperor Charles V (Look, Maximilian, Emperor Maximilian's grandson's funeral  ;D ):

A real tear jerker for me. Can you identify who it is in the center about 2:38?

The music is from this album:

And of course, there's Padre Victoria's Requiem too:

From this:

Mozart:

Verdi's Dies Irae:

Gregorian chant Requiem:

Ockeghem Requiem (the oldest complete extant polyphonic Requiem Mass):

Brahms' "A German Requiem" (not an actual Requiem Mass):

Fauré Requiem:

Duruflé Requiem:

Dvorak Requiem:

Some scary sounding music:

Bach Toccata and Fugue in D Minor:

Berlioz Symphonie Fantastique Dream of a Witches Sabbath:

Liszt Totentanz:

Liszt Mephisto Waltz:

Saint-Saens Danse Macabre:

Mussorgsky Night on Bald Mountain:

Stravinsky Infernal Dance from Firebird Suite:

Schubert Erlkonig:

Beethoven's 5th Symphony:

Medieval:

Saltarello 2:

Fr. Dufay:

(for Santiago)

Busnois:

Saltatio Mortis of Arany Zoltan:

Rossini William Tell Overture (Scary sounding somewhere in there):

Cantigas about hope for the protection of Our Lady though in this life and the next:

Cantiga 47:
Cantigas 284:

Thank you so much for all of these...

Thanks, Martin! I kind of remember hearing of that piece of Rachmaninov before.

This is another video that plays only the Offertorium of the Morales Requiem, and it shows the Cathedral of Seville, where St. Ferdinand (after whom our own city cathedral is named) and St. Christopher Columbus and his son are buried.

Shouldn't that be Philip II?

Yes, indeed it is! A great grandson of Emperor Maximilian too.

¡Viva Cristo Rey! Long live the Emperor! May Christ the King reign forever and ever! Long live the King!

Wonderful! I have lots of listening to do today...
In conclusion, I can leave you with no better advice than that given after every sermon by Msgr Vincent Giammarino, who was pastor of St Michael’s Church in Atlantic City in the 1950s:

“My dear good people: Do what you have to do, When you’re supposed to do it, The best way you can do it,   For the Love of God. Amen.”

A mere thanks doesn't do the OP's labor sufficient justice, I fear.  How generous of you, Kephapaulos.

So, what have you got in store for Advent?   :cheeseheadbeer:

I adore Thee O Christ, and I bless Thee, because by Thy holy cross Thou hast redeemed the world!

“Don’t waste time in your life trying to get even with your enemies. The grave is a tremendous equalizer. Six weeks after you all are dead, you’ll look pretty much the same. Let the Lord take care of those whom you think have harmed you. All you have to do is love and forgive. Try to forget and leave all else to the Master.”– Mother Angelica
