The thing about the explanations that preserve the integrity of the Islamic narrative is that, while casting doubt upon the carbon dating's reliability, they do not alleviate doubt about the narrative. For one who wants to believe the narrative, the explanations will be believed, but for anyone else there is no reason to prefer them. In fact there may well be less reason, especially given the general agreements of the datings.
