Catholic Bible study materials?

Wife mentioned she would like some resources for bible study. I've looked at Loreto Publications and Angelus Press. Would like something more comprehensive than a mere commentary on the Gospels or Psalms -- as good as those are.

Anyone have a good resource?

Needs to not be non-ebook (i.e., physical copy), gives a good background of things, and isn't overly intellectual (not because my wife is a simpleton, but because she has to watch over 2 young boys and cannot devote time to getting nitty-gritty).

This one is pretty good.

It's the one Seton uses for high school.  Cheaper than the one at Tan.  The whole set is pretty good.

I borrowed this book from my MIL awhile back, to see if I would like it: https://www.amazon.com/Practical-Commentary-Holy-Scripture/dp/0895557576  I thought it was excellent.  I think it definitely fits the bill of "gives a good background of things, and isn't overly intellectual."  Coming from a Mom with a billion kids, I found it intellectually stimulating, but not overly so.  It was just enough.  It's on my wish list.

Also, I've just been reading scripture by itself lately, because I simply want to know it well.  I have to say...it's been really great.  So, that's an option, too, for a Mom busy with littles.  I like to keep a journal for the verses that really appeal to me, and I kind of map them out with other verses that relate; or with quotes from saints and whatnot that pertain.  But, I do find sometimes that I wish I had a Catholic resource to help me understand what certain Scripture means.

I picked up this book, and several others in the same series, at a used book sale recently.  The look really good!  I'm looking forward to reading them.

I liked the comprehensiveness of this one. I got it in conjunction w/ Fr. Kenneth Baker S.J.'s "Inside the Bible: A Guide to Understanding Each Book of the Bible"

I actually already have that... somewhere, in one of the many boxes of books I never unpacked when we moved. It's pretty good.

I hope she enjoys them.  Happy Mother's Day, Mrs. Gardener  :)

I just got that myself. It looks very thorough. It's also on archive.org if you want to check it out before you buy it.

In conclusion, I can leave you with no better advice than that given after every sermon by Msgr Vincent Giammarino, who was pastor of St Michael's Church in Atlantic City in the 1950s:

"My dear good people: Do what you have to do, When you're supposed to do it, The best way you can do it,   For the Love of God. Amen"
