I accept that abuse at any age will shape your character.  I went to a rough London school where you had to fight or get beaten down.  Where bullying was constantly and relentless.  The stress at the age of 12 is pretty appalling.  You either curb your personality and try and hide everyday and kowtow or you fight back (and risk a beating or even a stabbing).

In that kind of sink or swim environment, some will be able to swim, while others will sink to the bottom. Not everyone can overcome hardships. We read the stories about plucky orphans who pull themselves up by their bootstraps, but no one writes books about the 99% of the orphans who aren't able to do that.

What's Rachel Dolezal's excuse.  Her Montana parents sat around all day watching Soul Train?

Her parents adopted 4 black children. That is what set her on a course of identifying herself as black.

I saw the parents interviewed.  They were clearly bringing those 4 adopted black children up in a white family culture.  They were as white American as Apple pie.  Heck they lived in Montana, it would be hard to find a whiter state to grow up in.

They didn't move Rachel to da' hood or take them all to weekly breakdancing classes in Kallispell.

They were all hiking and fishing every other weekend.  That's the truth of it.

They probably outed her before she could make up some outrageous lie that she was gang raped by the  Black Panthers or something equally crackers.

Greg are you saying that you do not believe psychologically abusing children causes negative effects on their adulthood?

Greg

No.

I am saying that some of the "abuse" is imagined.  Some of the "abuse" is good old fashioned parenting.  Some of the "abuse" is the child kicking back against their Mormon, Young Earth, Catholic, Middle Class parents and looking for a justification.  If you add up all of those "somes" I reckon you probably end up with most, on aggregate.

Once children make it out of the birth canal they are better treated today than at any time in history.  Kids used to be slaves, work in coal mines, have their balls chopped off to sing in Church choirs.  The middle and upper classes went to schools where they were beaten with canes.

In Roman society you weren't even considered to have rights until you were and adult.  Somehow society managed to produce enough mental balanced people to survive.

How do we know this ex-Tranny is telling the truth?

Let me ask you a question.  Do you believe that sweet innocent Eastern European women are still applying for jobs as "Waitresses" or "hostesses" and handing their passport to a people smuggler who goes to enormous lengths to smuggle them into the EU for a waitressing job?

I can remember billboards and full page adverts back in Russia in 1993 warning about sex-tourism and kidnapping and it's been in the newspapers ever since.  Perhaps in the early 1990s it really did happen.  You had a closed Soviet system breaking down and a lot of naive people needing money to survive and not able to understand being held hostage.

But now?  The silly girls of that age are now middle aged mothers to the daughters that would be smuggled.  What?  They are not going to warn them?  "So, Lyudmilla,  you've found a job in Naples and you are meeting a swarthy Albanian who is driving you there.  What's wrong with taking a plane?"

The moment they bust a brothel, they are all "smuggled victims".

But put your man hat on for a moment and think about prostitution as a viable business.  Why would men want to have sex with unwilling women who are drugged or beaten?  Makes no sense.  That has to be a very niche market for sadists.

Those sort of people either pay someone a lot of money to play-act the part or they kidnap them like Ariel Castro did.

When these abuse allegations suddenly arise 20 or 30 years later I am sceptical unless they are coming from independent sources and there is no compensation involved.  The sex-trade people smuggling myth has been blown out of all proportion.  There are thousands of illegal immigrants flooding into Europe but the smugglers are not in the least bit interested in enslaving them.  They basically want to get them over the boarder, collect their money and forget about them.  At that point the illegal can work for $5 per hour in a black market job or go and work for a criminal network growing dope in a rented house for $15 per hour.

Sure, criminals will use the resources they have but they are not kidnapping people to make them grow dope.  That would be very stupid.  The illegal must be willing to do it, or he could blow the whole gaff.  You need a willing, motivated worker who is going to water the plants, check the lighting and ventilation.  If you lose half of the crop you lose far more money than his paltry wages.

Here is my problem with this guy in a nutshell.  He is 74.  All of the people in his story are long since dead.

In his early forties, Heyer eventually sought out a prominent gender psychologist for evaluation, and "he quickly assured me that I obviously suffered from gender dysphoria. A gender change, he told me, was the cure."

Thrilled that he could finally attain his lifelong dream, Heyer underwent the surgical change, adopting his new identity as Laura Jensen, female.

What followed is, according to Heyer, a common occurrence that few hear about. "The reprieve provided by surgery and life as a woman was only temporary," he writes. "Hidden deep underneath the make-up and female clothing was the little boy carrying the hurts from traumatic childhood events, and he was making himself known."

"Being a female turned out to be only a cover-up, not healing," he writes.

Later, a medical doctor rediagnosed Heyer as having developed a dissociative disorder in childhood to escape the trauma of the repeated cross-dressing by his grandmother and sexual abuse by his uncle. "That should have been diagnosed and treated with psychotherapy. Instead, the gender specialist never considered my difficult childhood or even my alcoholism and saw only transgender identity," Heyer writes.

So, we have an intelligent guy here who worked for NASA and HONDA?  He has a high IQ - we can agree on that.  Somehow he held his shit together long enough to graduate and have a successful engineering career.

He's an alcoholic and a deviant at 40.  He believes a doctor who, he later claims, ignores his alcoholism and difficult childhood, in 1980.  Ask yourself whether it is likely he told the doctor everything?  If you went to the doctor and said, "I'm depressed about the state of the world and some days I feel suicidal, wouldn't you question him if he said, take pills, leave your job and spend all day on Catholic Forums?"  I would.

What intelligent person blindly does what the doctor says, unless it either makes sense OR they want to do that and were just looking for a supportive opinion?

How difficult was it to find such a doctor in the early 1980s?  I would have thought a doctor needed to be actively sought out who was sympathetic to trannies back in those days.  The vast majority of doctors back then would not be.  He chose the doctor that he decided to visit.  The doctor did not choose him.

Later, another doctor finds out about the "uncle" and the "purple dress".  The accused are dead by then of course; so can't object.

Look, this guy COULD be telling the truth, but he could also be a complete nutter making most, if not all, of it up.  Perhaps self-absorbed nutters are prone to swing from one extreme to another?  Perhaps they don't say to themselves, I am a screwball, maybe I shouldn't write a book about it.

Nah, that wouldn't be American.  We have to hear about the screwballs' stories.  You can only appreciate the value of live when you've been an abortionist.  You can only sell sobriety, when you've been a drunk.  Nobody understands infidelity like a serial cheater.

Just like Rachel Dolezal.  Imagine how many people might believe her if her parents and school friends were not around to contradict the story.

Isn't a story about someone saying "transgenderism" is a bad thing a good thing?  Maybe it is a lie.  There's enough pro "transgenderism" people out there and in the media that will figure it out and decry him a lying liar.  And if he's lying, what's his point?  I don't know, I guess there are a thousand scenarios.

There is a thing called False Memory Syndrome.  Many times this comes about due to a psychiatrists prying and leading a patient.  You use drugs?  Well, you must have been abused as a child.  You're promiscuous?  You must have been abused by your Father as a child.

You see where I'm going.  Suddenly it all makes sense to Johnny and together they develop the story.  These people actually believe what they begin to visualize in their brains.  They will testify to it in court.  As well as the doctor or professional.  And it's been accepted!  There are people in prison because of this.  Then, once in a while, someone will come out and admit they lied or were wrong.  It's ludicrous, but it does happen.

Maybe that's what's happened here.  I don't know.

Yes they did. They inspired her to start creating African art. The whole family started travelling around promoting her African art. Then she went to an historically-black college to get an MFA in African art. Then she married a black guy.

Ok, yeah i see where your coming from Greg.

There are parts of the world where people are being kidnapped to work in the drug trade; usually more as lab assistants than dope growers. growing weed is pretty much a free market industry now. And believe me human trafficking is still something that happens at an alarming rate. That being said, i can understand getting busted and using it as a scapegoat. But thinking it doesn't happen in significant numbers is plain crazy.

Better check your dates.

She was born in 1977.  They adopted the first black child when she was 15.  The formative years have passed by 15.

Parents and other children moved to South Africa 2002 when she was 25.

She didn't go with them to South Africa.

She has never lived in Haiti.  No evidence she has ever been there.  One of her adopted siblings was from there.

Rachel did not have to use bows and arrows to hunt for her own food, Ruthanne said, and she never lived in South Africa or Colorado. Ruthanne said she, Larry and the younger adopted siblings moved to South Africa in 2002, and lived there until 2006. Larry was stationed there as an employee of the faith-based Creation Ministries International.

"Rachel did not even ever visit us there," Ruthanne said.

I think Max is saying that Rachel's adopted siblings spent their formative years in Haiti and South Africa, not Rachel herself. As such they would never truly be "as white American as Apple pie."

Greg

Obviously not.  They're black.

But she's white and so was her home for her formative years.  What her parents do when she is 25 does not make her less white American.

They were evangelical missionaries in South Africa.  Not burning people in car tires or attacking white farmers.
